Blackthorn's That Girl's New in Town CGC (Marlo)

Two years ago
I was looking for a foundation bitch. I contacted probably twenty breeders
all over the country. I was not able to find anyone that had any puppies
available (at least for me). However, I did have a wonderful conversation
with Barbara Gilchrist of Blackthorn Labradors, who gave me the opportunity
to explain what my goals were in the breeding arena. After all, I am a non
entity in the breeding world, a total unknown. She listened and gave me an
opportunity to own a Blackthorn dog. After many phone calls and emails, Barb
called with an offer of a puppy. I obviously accepted! Barb and I
collaborated on a name and we came up with Blackthorn’s That Girl’ New In
Town. Some of you will remember Marlo Thomas, staring in the television
series, in the sixties, called “That Girl.” Hence the name Marlo! I
remembered that Marlo Thomas was a beautiful black haired woman, petite and
sweet. Marlo has all those characteristics and more. She has a beautiful
head, with great expression, with a lovely disposition.
I met Barb for the first time at this years Labrador retriever show of
the Potomac in Fredrick, Maryland. I was thrilled to finally meet this woman
who really took a chance with a no name person in the Labrador breeding
world. I really am indebted to Barb. Since that time we have had many
conversations and emails about all sorts of breeding concerns. She has
graciously shared her wisdom and experience with me. I can honestly say that
when Barb speaks, I listen. Her suggestions and experience are invaluable to
me. I am extremely fortunate to be mentored by such a respected person and
breeder. Thank you Barb!
At seven months of age, Marlo passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen test
with flying colors. She shows very well and really enjoys the ring. She will
be making more show appearances this coming year. I hope to send her to
Canada this summer with a local handler, who has had great success in Canada
for many years. As Marlo progresses in the ring and developmentally, I will
place updates on the site. You may inquire at any time by
emailing me.
