What do we say to others, CJ, to let
them know how important you were to me? You came
into my life when I needed you most, and stayed until
you were sure that I could do without you.
You
were my best friend, constant companion and soul mate
for so many years. You brought so much happiness
and joy to me and to so many others. You were the
perfect example of what a Labrador should be, and why
God put your breed on the earth. You were, and
always will be, my heart dog, with no other ever taking
your place. You filled a void in me when I needed
it most. That void is now forever filled with the
memories I have of you. When Judy came into our
lives and filled the other void I had, you knew it was
safe to leave me in her hands. You trusted, loved
and most of all adored her. You also loved her for
all the treats she constantly rewarded you with, for
that loving and adoring look you always gave her!
You were a master at being able to touch people in so
many wonderful ways! You could con anyone for a
treat, or a pat on the head, or a word of encouragement;
but then, in your genuine way, you gave back more than
they gave you.
You are now without pain and will
never be in pain again. It is my hope that when
the good Lord meets me at the gates of Heaven, that
there you are also, with your tail wagging and those big
brown eyes looking at me, ready to walk with me again as
we did so many times here. You are sadly missed,
loved and richly rewarded for who you were. May
you and Jesus spend much quality time together until I
can join you both. God speed my friend!
Your loving master,
Dennis

Yellow male born 4/1/98
OFA hips good, OFA elbows Normal,

North Country Labradors was
established in 1998 with CJ Strider. I'm not sure
when I decided that I wanted a Lab, but in 1997, I
started to look locally for a yellow male Labrador.
I found a breeder who was about to have a litter and put
a deposit down for a male. When the litter arrived
I had my choice of the males and CJ caught my eye.
I have two sons to whom I gave the
task of naming the new puppy. However, as with
most things and young children, they couldn't agree on a
name! So I decided that if they wouldn't agree, I
would
have
to solve the problem myself. My boy's names are
Corey and James, so I used the first initial of each
boy's first name to come up with CJ. That is only
half the name though. The other half comes from
the Tolkien Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings.
The first time I read the books, I thought that the name
and character of Strider was so cool! I knew that
when I had another dog, I would name him "Strider".
As CJ grew, I began to feel that this
dog was special in many ways, so I had several people
evaluate him and give me an opinion on his quality.
It was decided to try him in the show ring and see how
he would compete. Under the guidance of handler
Mary Grill of Lapeer, Michigan, he took a three point
major in his third show, and another two points at his
fourth show. He has since gone reserve many times
but has not gotten back into the points.
I decided to send him to Canada to
see how he would do there. In four shows, he
completed his Canadian title, finishing with thirteen
points. CJ also acquired his AKC Canine Good
Citizen certificate and an AKC Therapy Dog International
certificate. he has a very gentle, kind and loving
nature! CJ is retired and enjoying his golden
years here at North Country.
